Laser speckle is a granular pattern formed by the interference of coherent laser light scattered from tissue . Speckle fluctuations arise from and are modulated by the Brownian motion of endogenous light scatterers and are in turn closely related to the viscoelastic properties of the tissue microenvironment [ 21 , 25 – 30 ].

Briefly, a CCD camera (Cohu, San Diego, CA, U.S.A.) was positioned above the head, and a laser diode (780 nm) was used to illuminate the skull surface in a diffuse manner. The penetration depth of the laser is approxi- The speckle pattern produced when a laser is scattered by a disordered medium has recently been shown to give a surprisingly accurate or broadband measurement of wavelength. Here it is shown that deep learning is an ideal approach to analyze wavelength variations using a speckle wavemeter due to its ability to identify trends and overcome low signal to noise ratio in complex datasets. Laser speckle—the dazzling pattern of light and dark spots you see here—arises from a phenomenon known as wave interference. Light waves emerge from a laser coherently—that is, with the crests of all the light waves aligned.

Speckles are produced when coherent light scattered back from biological tissue is diffracted through the limiting aperture of focusing optics. When laser light which has been scattered off a rough surface falls on another surface, it forms an "objective speckle pattern". If a photographic plate or another 2-D optical sensor is located within the scattered light field without a lens, a speckle pattern is obtained whose characteristics depend on the geometry of the system and the wavelength of the laser. Laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI) which can also be called laser speckle imaging (LSI) is an imaging modality based on the analysis of the blurring effect of the speckle pattern. The operation of LSCI is having a wide-field illumination of a rough surface through a coherent light source. Speckle patterns can severely degrade the image quality of laser projection displays, or disturb position measurements with laser pointers.

Laser Speckle in Medical Imaging - LaserLabMed Laser speckle is an interference phenomenon that is observed when coherent light (e.g.laser ) is scattered from a diffusing surface. In general, a speckle pattern is a random pattern whose properties can be described using stochastics and probabilistic laws. Laser Speckle Imaging (LSI) is a non-invasive blood flow imaging technique that can provide information on the state of biological tissues and the efficiency of disease treatment.
